Game Summary

On Sunday, the Saints' bats stayed alive as they pounded out 12 more hits on their way to a 9-3 victory over the Granite City Grays.  Brent Schloe led the team at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.  Luke Schumer went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Danny Scholand was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Charlie Carr added a 2-run single, and Andy Schneider had two hits.  Chad Schwegel picked up the win on the mound by pitching seven strong innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Saints struck first.  Scholand reached on a bunt single and Ryan Stark reached on a fielder's choice as the Grays tried to turn a double play, but the throw was bobbled at second, allowing Scholand to reach second safely.  Schloe followed with a single to score Scholand and two outs later, Steve Newman singled to score Stark, with Schloe advancing to third and Newman to second on the throw.  Carr then delivered a single to score both Schloe and Neman to put the Saints up 4-0.  The Grays scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead in half, but the Saints responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to open up the game.  Schneider singled with one out and Eli Stenman ran for him.  A wild pitch put Stenman on second and a walk to Jason Wald, another wild pitch, and a walk to Scholand loaded the bases.  Stark then hit a potential ground ball double play, but another error resulted in Stenman scoring and the bases still being loaded.  Schloe followed that with a single to score both Wald and Scholand.  Then, with two outs, Schumer hit a high fly ball to center that was lost in the sun and resulted in a double and both Stark and Schloe scoring to make the score 9-2.  The Grays added one more run in the eighth to end the scoring for both teams and make the score 9-3.
