The Saint Joseph Saints won their third straight game with an 8-5 victory over the Maple Lake Lakers Wednesday night in an exhibition game at Irish Stadium in Maple Lake. The Saints pounded out 12 hits in the game, led by Luke Schumer, who finished 3-for-6 with a double, one run scored, and two RBIs. Aaron Rocheleau had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs and both Andy Schneider and Jason Ellingson had two hits. Rocheleau also picked up the victory on the mound with 3 2/3 innings of solid relief. He allowed no runs, no hits, two walks, and struck out six.
The Saints got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first inning. Casey Haugen walked and stole second, Rocheleau reached on an error, Brent Schloe walked to load the bases, and Schumer singled to score Haugen and Rocheleau. The Lakers came back with three in the bottom of the first to take the lead at 3-2, but the Saints tied it in the top of the second. Haugen was hit by a pitch and advanced to third when a fly ball off the bat of Rocheleau was dropped and kicked out of play. Schloe then grounded out to score Haugen. The Saints reclaimed the lead in the third when Ellingson singled home Nick Percuoco from second with two outs. The score remained tied at 3-3 until the top of the sixth when the Saints struck again. Rocheleau reached on a fielders choice, Schumer singled him over to third, Schneider walked to load the bases, and Tom Kemper walked to score Rocheleau and make the score 5-3. The Saints score again in the seventh when Eli Stenman singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Rocheleau. In the eighth, Schumer doubled, Schneider singled him to third, and Schumer scored on a wild pitch to put the Saints up 7-3. The Lakers got two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead in half, but the Saints added one more in the top of the ninth to seal the victory. Ellingson walked, Stenman bunted him over to second, Haugen walked, and Rocheleau hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Ellingson and make the score 8-5.
