Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints moved to 11-0 on Wednesday night with a 6-5 exhibition win over the Avon Lakers at Schneider Field.  The Saints rallied from a 5-3 deficit to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead.  The game was called after eight innings due to darkness.  The Saints managed just eight hits in the game, led by Jason Wald, who finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including the go-ahead RBI-single in the seventh.  Brent Schloe went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored and Luke Schumer picked up the win on the mound in relief.

The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the first when Michael Carr reached on an error, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a single by Schumer.  The Saints scored again in the fifth with some small ball as Andy Schneider walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Wald single to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.  The Lakers responded with a five run fifth inning in which they sent ten men to the plate to take a 5-2 lead.  St. Joe came back with one in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-3 when Eli Stenman singled, went to second on a groundout, moved to third on a single by Schloe, and scored after a walk to Schumer and then Schneider.  The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when the Saints made their comeback.  Bryan Rocheleau led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a double by Schloe.  Schumer flied out to advance Schloe to third and Schloe scored to tie the game on an error off the bat of Tom Kemper.  A wild pitch moved Kemper to second and Wald singled him home with the eventual winning run.
