On Saturday, the Saints and Bees went back and forth before the Saints finally took the lead for good in the fourth inning. The Saints managed 13 hits in the game, led by Craig Hern, who finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI. Steve Newman chipped in with a 3-for-5 game, including two RBIs, and Brent Schloe, Andy Schneider, and Keith Plekkenpol all added two hits apiece. Dan Scholand drove in three runs as well. Dan Klein picked up his second win of the season in relief on the mound and Craig Hern pitched the final three innings for his first save.
Brainerd led 1-0 after the top of the second, but the Saints responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Hern doubled and scored on an error for the team's first run. Plekkenpol then singled; Eli Stenman walked to load the bases; Michael Carr walked to force in Schneider from third; Scholand singled to right center to score Plekkenpol, Stenman, and Carr; Schloe singled; and Hern singled to score Scholand to put the Saints up 6-1. The Bees scored four in the top of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead, but the Saints rallied with two in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead. Hern walked and Schneider reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and second. Newman singled to score Hern and Schneider scored on an error one batter later. The Saints scored again in the sixth after Hern doubled, stole third, and scored on a single by Schneider. Brainerd scored another run in the eight to cut the lead to 9-8, but the Saints tacked on one more in the bottom of the eighth when Schloe was hit by a pitch, went to second on a Schneider single, and scored on a single by Newman.
