Game Summary

On Sunday, Andy Schneider singled home Keith Plekkenpol with two outs in the top of the 12th inning with the go ahead and eventual winning run against Orthopedic.  The Saints managed just seven hits in the game, with Plekkenpol being the only Saints player with more than one hit, as he finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Chad Schwegel and Craig Hern combined to pitch 8 1/3 great innings of relief on the mound, with Hern picking up his second victory of the weekend.  Schwegel went the first 6 1/3 innings in relief of Blake Cheeley, allowing one run on three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.  Hern pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

The Saints fell behind 1-0 after an inning of play, but responded with four runs (three unearned) in the top of the third inning.  Jason Wald led off with a walk, Plekkenpol's perfect sacrifice bunt turned into a hit, and Dan Scholand sacrificed both runners up a base.  With Brent Schloe batting, a balk forced home Wald and moved Plekkenpol third.  Schloe eventually walked, Hern was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Schneider reached on an error which allowed Plekkenpol and Schloe to score.  Steve Newman followed with a single to plate Hern and give the Saints a 4-1 lead.  The Ice came right back, thought, in the bottom of the third with two runs to make the score 4-3 and the game stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth with two outs, when an Ice solo home run tied the game.  The game remained 4-4 until the top of the 12th when the Saints scored the winning run.  Plekkenpol singled to start the inning and Scholand's sacrifice bunt attempt resulted in a high throw to second base, allowing both runners to be safe.  Ryan Stark followed with a lined shot up the middle that deflected off the Ice pitcher, resulting in Stark being out at first and both runners moving up a base.  Schloe was intentionally walked to load the bases and, two batters later, Schneider delivered a single through the left side of the infield to score Plekkenpol with the winning run.
