After starting the season 14-0, the Saint Joseph Saints lost their second straight game and first Lakewood League game of the season on Wednesday night 7-4 to the Sartell Muskies at Champion Field in Sartell. The game was originally supposed to be played at Schneider Field in St. Joe, but bad weather flooded the field just before game time and forced the game over to Sartell under the lights, where the Saints were still the home team. The Saints managed 11 hits in the game, but left 16 runners on base. Leading the offense for the Saints was Craig Hern, who finished 3-for-5 with a run scored. Keith Plekkenpol went 2-for-2 with a run scored, Luke Schumer finished 2-for-5, and Brent Schloe had a triple and two RBIs. Dan Klein took the loss on the mound.
The Saints fell behind in the top of the first as Sartell took advantage of an error, three hits, and a walk to score four times, three of which were unearned. Sartell added another in the second to take a 5-0 lead. The Saints got on the board in the third when Dan Scholand was hit by a pitch, went to third on a Hern single, and scored on a groundout by Schloe. Sartell got that run right back in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead and the score stayed that way until the sixth, when the Saints scored again. With two outs, Hern singled up the middle and scored on Schloe's triple to center. However, Sartell responded with another run in the eighth to take a 7-2 lead. The Saints scored two more times in the eighth when Keith Plekkenpol singled, Eli Stenman singled, Schloe walked to load the bases, Plekkenpol scored on an error, and Stenman scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-4.
