Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Sauk Rapids Cyclones 6-5 in Lakewood League action on a windy and chilly Sunday afternoon at Bob Cross Field.  The Saints scored all six of their runs over the last three innings, with the go-ahead run courtesy of back-to-back doubles by Andy Schneider and Charlie Carr with one out in the top of the ninth inning.  In the game, the Saints pounded out 12 hits, led by Carr, who finished 3-for-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored.  Andy Schneider went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Michael Carr finished with three RBIs.  Chad Schwegel picked up the victory on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts over five innings of relief.  The Saints' defense also turned four double plays in the game, including one in the ninth inning to end the game.

The Saints managed just three hits over the first six innings and trailed 5-0 after the Cyclones scored four times in the fourth and once in the fifth.  However, the comeback started in the bottom of the seventh when Steve Newman and Eli Stenman singled and pinch hitter Tom Kemper reached on a bunt single to load the bases.  A fielder's choice by Michael Carr scored Newman and Ryan Stark followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Stenman and cut the lead to 5-2.  In the eighth, a leadoff walk by Schneider, a single by Charlie Carr, and a walk to Jason Wald loaded the bases.  A double play appeared to kill the rally for the Saints, but Stenman was was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, a single by Bryan Rocheleau scored Charlie Carr, and Michael Carr followed that up with a single to score Wald and Stenman and tie the game at 5-5.  Then, with one out in the ninth, Schneider doubled to right center and Charlie Carr doubled to right to score Schneider with the eventual winning run and complete the comeback.
