On Friday, the Saints did all their scoring in the third inning, scoring six times on seven hits, en route to a victory over the Cyclones. The Saints pounded out 10 hits in the game, two each coming from Steve Newman and Brent Schloe, who both finished 2-for-4. The defense turned four double plays in the game as well. Jason Wald pitched four innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first win of the season on the mound.
After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, the Saints responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryan Rocheleau led off with a double and scored on a single by Dan Scholand. Newman then singled, Schloe singled to score Scholand, and Schumer singled to load the bases. Wald followed with a single to score Newman and, on that same play, Schloe scored, Schumer went to third, and Wald to second on a Cyclone error. Keith Plekkenpol singled home Schumer and Eli Stenman reached on a fielder's choice to score Wald. The Cyclones chipped away at the lead with two runs in the eighth, but they left the bases loaded in the ninth as the Saints held on for the win.
