On Sunday, the Saints scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to break open a 2-2 tie to defeat the Bandits. St. Joe only managed eight hits in the game with Brent Schloe (double, RBI) and Luke Schumer (run) collecting two each. Jason Wald scored two runs, Paul Schumer had a two-run double, and Aaron Hellem added a two-run triple to aid in the win. Chad Schwegel picked up his third straight complete game victory on the mound by allowing one earned run on eight hits, one walk, and 10 strikeouts. The one walk was Schwegel's first of the summer in over 30 innings.
The Saints fell behind 2-0 after two innings of play, but were able to tie the game with two runs of their own in the fourth. Aaron Rocheleau reached on an error and later stole second, Jason Wald walked, and both scored on a double by Paul Schumer. The score remained 2-2 until the top of the eighth inning when the Saints finally broke open the game. Schloe led off with a double, Luke Schumer bunted safely and pinch runner Jake Althaus scored on the play, Wald walked, and Hellem tripled home Schumer and Wald to give the Saints a 5-2 lead. St. Joe added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as well when Dan Scholand walked, went to second on a passed ball, Tom Kemper singled, and Schloe singled home Scholand to make the score 6-2.
