On Saturday, the Saints took advantage of two early errors by the Bees and stellar pitching by Chad Schwegel to defeat the Bees in a game that lasted just over 90 minutes. The Saints scored two unearned runs in the first and Luke Schumer's check-swing single in the bottom of the seventh scored Dan Scholand with the go-ahead and eventual winning run. St. Joe only managed seven hits in the game, led by Scholand, who finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Jason Wald added two hits as well and Chad Schwegel picked up his second straight complete game win on the mound. He allowed one earned run while scattering eight hits, no walks, and six strikeouts.
The Saints fell behind 1-0 after a half inning of play, but came back to take the lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning. Scholand led off with a double, moved to third on an error off the bat of Brent Schloe, a fielder's choice by Schumer loaded the bases, Aaron Rocheleau hit a sacrifice fly to score Scholand, and an error off the bat of Steve Newman scored Schloe. The Bees tied the game in the top of the sixth at 2-2, but the Saints pulled back ahead with a single run in the bottom of the seventh. Scholand reached on a bunt single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Carr, went to third on a groundout by Schloe, and scored on a single by Schumer to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.
