Game Summary

On Saturday, the Saints pounded out a season high 18 hits en route to a convincing win over the Grays.  The scoring was sparked by an eight-run third inning in which the Saints collected eight hits, and the Saints capitalized on four Grays' errors despite making five themselves.  Leading the offensive attack was Dan Scholand, who finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Steve Newman went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and an RBI; Michael Carr, Brent Schloe (two RBIs), and Luke Schumer (RBI) all went 2-for-5 with a run scored; Aaron Rocheleau was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI; and Paul Schumer was 2-for-3 with a double, run, and an RBI.  Chad Schwegel picked up the complete game victory on the mound, his first of the year.  He allowed two earned runs on six hits, no walks, and struck out ten.

The Saints fell behind 1-0 after a half inning of play, but stormed back with an 8-run third inning.  Scholand led off with a single, went to second on a groundout, and scored on a single by Schloe.  Luke Schumer then singled, Rocheleau walked to load the bases, Newman singled home Schloe, Paul Schumer singled home Luke Schumer, Jason Wald reached on an error to score Rocheleau, a wild pitch scored Newman and advanced the runners, Scholand singled home Paul Schumer and Wald, Carr singled, and Schloe singled to score Scholand.  After the Grays added a run in the top of the fourth, the Saints added two more in the bottom of the inning.  Rocheleau reached on an error, Newman doubled, and two errors on the play allowed both runners to score and put the Saints up 10-2.  The Grays scored two more runs in the fifth, but the Saints got those runs back with one each in the fifth and seventh innings.  In the fifth, Carr singled, went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a singled by Rocheleau.  In the seventh, Scholand doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a single by Luke Schumer, making the score 12-4.
