Game Summary

On Wednesday night, the Saints picked up their first shutout of the season and the hitting attack continued with 15 more hits in a solid all-around exhibition victory over the Grovers.  The offense was led by Dan Scholand, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored.  Five other Saints finished with two hits each: Michael Carr (run), Brent Schloe (two doubles, run, two RBIs), Aaron Rocheleau (two runs, RBI), Steven Newman (two runs), and Paul Schumer (double, run, two RBIs).  Jason Wald added three RBIs as well and Paul Schumer pitched eight innings to earn the victory on the mound.  He allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out four for his first win of the season and as a Saint.

The Saints got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Rocheleau, Newman, Paul Schumer, and Wald hit four straight singles, with Rocheleau and Newman scoring on Wald's hit.  In the third, the Saints poured it on with seven runs on nine hits, including six hits in a row.  Carr led off with a single, Schloe doubled home Carr, Schumer singled, Rocheleau singled home Schloe, Newman singled, Paul Schumer doubled home Luke Schumer and Rocheleau, a wild pitch scored Newman and moved Paul Schumer to third, Wald hit a sacrifice fly to score Paul Schumer, Scholand singled, Carr singled, and Schloe doubled home Scholand for the seventh run of the inning and made the score 9-0.
