The St. Joseph Saints played one of their best all around games of the season in squeaking out a 2-1 victory over Rosters Snappers on Sunday afternoon at Schneider Field. Although the team managed just five hits in the game, the defense made no errors for the first time all season at home and Chad Schwegel dominated on the mound, retiring the last 19 batters he faced after an early run. Leading the offense was Brent Schloe, who finished 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Luke Schumer added an RBI single and Steve Newman picked up a hit and an RBI on a perfect suicide squeeze bunt. Schwegel went all nine innings, allowing just one run on three hits, no walks, and he struck out eight.
The Snappers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and the score remained that way until the sixth inning when the Saints finally got on the board with two runs. Aaron Rocheleau led off with a single and stole second, Schloe doubled him to third, Schumer singled home Rocheleau, and Newman laid down a bunt that scored Schloe and gave the Saints a 2-1 lead and end all scoring for the remainder of the game.
