After a week off, the rust showed as the St. Joseph Saints' nine game winning streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon with an 11-inning Lakewood League loss to the Sartell Muskies at Champion Field in Sartell. The Saints led 4-0 after an inning and 4-2 for most of the game until the Muskies tied the game with an unearned run in the ninth and scored the winning run on an error in the 11th. The Saints' bats were silent after the first innings as they only managed four hits in the game, two each by Aaron Rocheleau (HR, run, three RBIs) and Brent Schloe (2B, run, RBI). Chad Schwegel started on the mound and went nine innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits, one walk, and three strikeouts, while Rocheleau picked up the loss in relief.
The Saints did all their scoring in the top of the first inning. Dan Scholand led off with a walk, Schloe doubled him home, Luke Schumer was hit by a pitch, and both Schloe and Schumer scored on Rocheleau's second home run of the summer to left, giving the Saints a 4-0 lead. Sartell cut the lead in half with two runs in the third and the score remained 4-2 until the bottom of the ninth inning. A solo home run cut the lead to one, a double and an error put the tying run on third, and a seeing-eye single found a hole through the drawn-in left side of the infield to tie the game at 4-4. In the 11th, a double off the fence by Sartell led off the inning and an error on a sacrifice bunt brought home the winning run, giving the Muskies a 5-4 win.
