Game Summary

The St. Joseph Saints were rained out of their exhibition game on Saturday against the Minneapolis Rocks and then fell 10-6 to the Sauk Rapids Cyclones on Sunday at Schneider Field in a Lakewood League game.  The Saints led 6-2 after seven innings, but the Cyclones rallied for eight runs on eight hits to take the lead and win the game.  The Saints managed eight hits in the game, led by Luke Schumer, who finished with two doubles and two RBIs.  Danny Scholand and Michael Carr also had a hit and scored two runs each.  Aaron Hellem picked up the tough loss on the mound after holding Sauk Rapids to two runs through seven innings.

The Cyclones jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after a half inning of play, but the Saints tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.  Scholand walked, Carr singled, both runners advanced on a groundout, Schumer doubled home Scholand, and Hellem grounded out to score Carr.  The Saints took the lead in the third when Carr walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on another double by Schumer.  In the fifth, the Saints struck for another run when Scholand walked, went to second on a passed ball, moved to third after an error, and scored on a balk.  St. Joe then added two more runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.  Steve Newman singled, went to second on an error, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a double by Jason Wald.  Ryan Stark then singled Wald to third and Scholand hit a sacrifice fly to score Newman.  However, the Cyclones pounded out eight hits and scored eight runs (four earned) in the top of the eighth inning to come back and take the lead for good at 10-6.
