Game Summary

On Friday, the Saints led 2-1 going into the seventh inning, but fell apart by committing five errors that led to seven unearned runs.  The offense tried to come back in the bottom of the inning with four runs, but they left the bases loaded when the final out was recorded.  St. Joe managed just seven hits in the game, led by Chad Hockemeyer, who went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Danny Scholand, who finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Scott Sand pitched 6 2/3 solid innings before being victimized by the poor defense and picked up the loss on the mound.

The Pirates took a 1-0 in the second, but the Saints come back and took the lead in the fourth.  Brent Schloe walked, Luke Schumer reached on a bunt single, Aaron Rocheleau reached to load the bases after his bunt was mishandled, and Hockemeyer singled Schloe and Schumer home.  The scored remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh when the wheels fell off for the Saints.  Five errors, four hits, a walk, and three wild pitches later led to seven runs and the Pirates led 8-2.  The Saints made a good effort in the bottom of the innings to score four runs, but the comeback once again fell short.  Hockemeyer singled, Jason Wald singled, Aaron Hellem walked to load the bases, Scholand singled home Hockemeyer, Steve Newman walked in Wald, Luke Schumer walked in Hellem, and Rocheleau grounded out to score Scholand and end the rally at 8-6.
