On Saturday, the Saints played nearly flawless as they committed no errors, had solid pitching, and scored three of their four runs with two outs. The offense collected 11 hits in the game, led by Danny Scholand, who finished 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Brent Schloe went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored, and an RBI, and Luke Schumer added two hits. Scott Sand picked up the complete game win on the mound, allowing one run on just three hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.
The Saints scored in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead when Schloe doubled with two outs, Schumer reached on an infield single to move Schloe to third, and an errant throw allowed Schloe to score. In the fifth, the Saints added a second run when Michael Carr singled, Steve Newman bunted Carr over to second, and Scholand singled Carr home for a 2-0 lead. St. Joe tacked on another run in the seventh when Scholand singled and advanced to second on an error, and came home on a Jason Wald single. In the ninth, the Saints added an insurance run when Scholand doubled and came around to score on a single by Schloe to give the Saints a 4-0 lead. The Lakers scored their lone run in the bottom of the ninth on a groundout to end the scoring at 4-1.
