The Saint Joseph Saints won their second straight Lakewood League game with a 2-1 victory over the Clear Lake Lakers on Wednesday night in Clear Lake. The offense pounded out 10 hits in the game with Luke Schumer, Aaron Rocheleau, and Brent Schloe all collecting two each, and Paul Schumer added an RBI-single. Chad Schwegel picked up the complete game victory on the mound for the Saints by allowing one run on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.
The Saints scored right away in the top of the first inning when Chad Hockemeyer singled, Schloe singled Hockemeyer to third, Luke Schumer walked to fill the bases, and Paul Schumer singled home Hockemeyer for a 1-0 Saints lead. The Lakers tied the game with a run in the fourth, but the Saints took the lead for good in the top of the sixth. Steve Newman walked, Jason Wald reached on an error that also advanced Newman to third, and Newman scored on Wald's delayed steal that resulted in an errant throw to the plate to give the Saints a 2-1 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.
