On Sunday, the Saints' bats woke up in a big way as they pounded out 22 hits on their way to a win over the Blues. The Saints scored 13 runs in the third inning alone on 11 hits as they sent 18 men to the plate in the inning. Leading the offense was Brent Schloe, who went 5-for-6 with a home run, double, four runs scored, and three RBIs. Luke Schumer went 3-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI, Danny Scholand finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Steve Newman, Jason Wald, and Paul Schumer all had two hits and two RBIs. Cameron Knudsen picked up the complete game win in his first career amateur start for the Saints on the mound. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and struck out four over seven innings of work.
The Saints jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play. Scholand singled, Schloe singled Scholand to third and went to second on the throw, Luke Schumer singled home Scholand, and Wald singled home Schloe. The Blues scored an unearned run in the top of the second to cut the lead in half, but the Saints erupted for 13 runs in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open. Schloe led off with a home run; Luke Schumer doubled; Wald walked; Paul Schumer singled home Luke Schumer; Chad Hockemeyer doubled home Wald; Mike Dabu singled home Paul Schumer and Hockemeyer; Jake Althaus walked; Scholand walked to load the bases; Newman doubled home Dabu and Althaus; Schloe doubled home Scholand and Newman; Wald doubled home Schloe; Paul Schumer doubled home Wald; Hockemeyer walked; Althaus singled home Paul Schumer; and Scholand singled home Hockemeyer to make the score 15-1. In the fourth, the Saints added another run when Schloe singled, Luke Schumer singled, Tom Kemper walked, and Joe Prom singled home Schloe. The Saints tacked on their final run in the fifth when Althaus, Newman, and Schloe all singled and Kemper was hit by a pitch to bring home Althaus and make the score 17-1.
