Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints won their seventh game in a row by defeating the Minneapolis Angels 8-1 in their second game of the Saint Cloud Sports Inc. Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Joe Faber Field.  The rain on Saturday pushed three sets of games to Sunday and canceled the championship round, so no other games were played by the Saints in the tournament.  The Saints pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by Aaron Rocheleau, Brent Schloe, and Jason Wald, who all had two hits.  Aaron Hellem picked up the complete game win on the mound in his first start of the season and first appearance in over three weeks.  He allowed just one run on four hits, two walks, and he struck out four in seven innings of work.

The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.  Rocheleau doubled, Schloe doubled Rocheleau home, Luke Schumer singled Schloe to third, and both runners pulled of a double steal with Schloe scoring on the play.  St. Joe added another run in the second when Chad Hockemeyer doubled, Travis Genty singled Hockemeyer to third, and Danny Scholand hit a sacrifice fly to score Hockemeyer and make the score 3-0.  The Saints tacked on four more runs in the fourth to open up a comfortable lead.  Rocheleau singled, Schloe doubled, Luke Schumer grounded out to score Rocheleau and advance Schloe to third, Steve Newman singled home Schloe, Paul Schumer tripled home Newman, and Jason Wald singled home Paul Schumer.  The Saints added one final run in the fifth inning when Scholand walked, Brian Rocheleau singled Scholand to third, and Scott Sand singled home Scholand to give the Saints an 8-0 lead.  Minneapolis scored one run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 8-1.
