The Saint Joseph Saints won their fifth game in a row by defeating the New Munich Silverstreaks 11-1 in an exhibition game on Wednesday night at Schneider Field in St. Joe. Paul Schumer led the team's 11-hit attack by going 2-for-2 with a double and a 3-run home run. Chris Rocheleau also picked up his first career amateur hit with a 3-run double. Chad Schwegel picked up the complete game win on the mound by allowing one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and ten strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The Silverstreaks took an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but the Saints broke the game open in the fourth when they scored four runs of their own. Brent Schloe singled, Luke Schumer walked, both runners stole the next base, Steve Newman hit a sacrifice fly to score Schloe, Jason Wald singled, and Paul Schumer belted a 3-run home run to put the Saints up 4-1. St. Joe added two more runs in the fifth when Tom Kemper singled, Danny Scholand tripled to score Kemper, and Schloe grounded out to score Scholand. The Saints tacked on their final five runs in the seventh inning to pull away for good. Josh Althaus reached on an error, Bryan Rocheleau singled, Travis Genty walked to fill the bases, Jake Althaus walked to score Josh Althaus, Chris Rocheleau doubled home Bryan Rocheleau, Genty, and Jake Althaus, and Mike Dabu singled home Chris Rocheleau to make the score 11-1 and end the game via the 10-run rule.
