The Saint Joseph Saints won their second game in a row with a 7-0 victory over the Opole Bears on Wednesday night at Schneider Field in a game that was shortened to seven innings due to darkness. The Saints pounded out 10 hits in the game and Chad Schwegel dominated on the mound, striking out 14 batters and allowing just three hits and no walks on his way to a complete game shutout. Offensively, Bryan Rocheleau (2-for-2, run, RBI), Steve Newman (2-for-2, RBI), and Brent Schloe (2-for-3, two doubles, run, RBI) led the way for Saints and Scott Sand added a pinch hit, two run single.
The Saints scored right away in the bottom of the first when Paul Schumer reached on a fielder's choice and Schloe doubled him home for a 1-0 lead. In the second, the Saints added another run when Mike Dabu walked, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single by Bryan Rocheleau. The Saints made it 3-0 in the fourth after Rocheleau singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Jason Wald. In the fifth, the Saints broke the game open with four more runs to put the game out of reach. Chad Hockemeyer singled, Schloe walked, Luke Schumer walked to fill the bases, Sand singled to score Hockemeyer and Schloe, two wild pitches plated Schumer and moved re-entered pinch runner Aaron Rocheleau to third, and Newman singled Rocheleau home to make the score 7-0 in favor of the Saints.
