Game Summary

On Sunday, the Saints were a completely different team and played their best overall game of the season in a win over the Snappers.  The offense only managed eight hits, but they came in clutch situations; the defense committed no errors for the first time all year; and the pitching surrendered just three runs while striking out 13 batters.  Chad Hockemeyer led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, including the go-ahead RBI double in the eighth inning.  Dan Scholand also had a two-run double and Brent Schloe added two hits in the win.  Aaron Rocheleau picked up the win on the mound in relief of Luke Schumer, who was making his first start of the year.  Schumer allowed two runs on three hits, three walks, and had six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, while Rocheleau went 4 2/3 innings, giving up just one run on four hits, two walks, and struck out seven.

The Snappers scored the first run of the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning for a 1-0 lead.  However, the Saints rallied for three runs in the fifth when Paul Schumer tripled, Jason Wald reached on an infield single, Hockemeyer singled home Schumer, and Scholand doubled home Wald and Hockemeyer.  The Snappers scored a run in the bottom fifth and added another solo home run in the sixth to tie the game, but the Saints responded with the game's final run in the top of the eighth when Rocheleau walked, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a double by Hockemeyer to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Saints.
