Preview Box Score Recap

The St. Joseph Saints finished the 2011 regular season with a disappointing 5-4 Lakewood League loss to the Freeport Black Sox on a hot and humidy Sunday afternoon at New Munich Field.  The Black Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal the win from the Saints after St. Joe scored twice in the top of the inning to open up a more comfortable lead.  The Saints managed eight hits in the game, led by Tyler Fries, who finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.  Aaron Rocheleau went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and Steve Newman added a two-run single.  Cory Hollenhorst was tagged with the loss on the mound.

The Saints got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs for a 2-0 lead.  Fries was hit by a pitch, Brent Schloe walked, Rocheleau reached on an infield single to load the bases, and Newman singled home Fries and Schloe.  The Black Sox scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half, and the score remained that way until the top of the eighth inning when the Saints added to their lead with two more runs.  Rocheleau doubled, Tom Kemper sacrificed Rocheleau to third, Aaron Hellem walked and was pinch ran for by Travis Genty, Matt Ronan reached on a fielder's choice to score Hellem with Genty going to third on an error, and Dan Scholand squeezed home Genty to make the score 4-1.  However, the Black Sox rallied in the bottom of the inning with the help of a Saints error, a close call at second base going their way, a 2-run single, and a 2-run, opposite field home run with two outs, to take the game 5-4.
